Inkmo is my dude

February 8, 2010 | 10:03 pm, by radiomaru

Because of my fervent desire to make this last Scott Pilgrim book even better than all the other ones put together, and because of the tight drawing & releasing schedule, I solicited for an art assistant back in december. So for the past month I’ve been working with Mr John “Inkmo” Kantz (check out his deviantart and webcomic) and I’m pleased to say that it is going extremely well.

With volumes 4 and 5 especially, I just got down to crunch time and couldn’t do as much as I wanted to with the tones. This is usually the last step in the process and is the first thing to get axed when you’re pressed for time, because hey, the comic is drawn, there are drawings, it all makes sense. But having the shading and those extra interesting patterns and stuff can really push things to the limit and that’s what I want!!! I want the limit!!!!!!

So anyway, that’s what John is doing – he’s completely handling the toning for me, and since I ended up with such a freakin’ talented assistant he’s also helping out with a bunch of backgrounds and other stuff. And with his help, the book will be on time! and most importantly it will look totally awesome!

I wish I could show you all the wonderful work he’s doing, but pretty much every panel is a spoiler. Sorry. I don’t want to spoil you. So this whole past is just a big tease.

The 6th book is going to be awesome. Can you tell us the rough page count? Like, will it be considerably more or less the the first 5? And did you draw the one sheet for the movie? I’ve only seen it on wiki.

    Cheers Dan

Hello there Brian, that is absolutely fantastic news. I honestly cannot capture the awesomeness to verbalize how unbelievably awfcknsome Scott Pilgrim Manga are. You honestly capture perfectly the amazing art form of a gaming era seemingly long gone. Your comics are an awesome reminder of how we were awestruck by simply gorgeous graphics, incredible music (yes, NES music was awesome lol!) and sick storylines (even if they weren’t all up to snuff lol) Thanks for this grandiose comic. I was literally cracking up at the Ninja Gaiden homage lol!…please keep up the awesome work!

Hey Bryan, i just got back from London and whilst i was there i visited a few studios, one of which was double negative. I was overjoyed when i saw a still frame of the Scott Pilgrim Movie being worked on! It wasn’t moving, and this particular frame had motion blur (i guess the camera or Michael Cera was moving during it), but still! Extra excited to see it now, man! Plus saw some upcoming Gorillaz music vids and shorts being worked on at Passion Pictures.

I never noticed this before, but what are those round things that Lynnette Guycott is sitting on in the Comics Festival cover above? They look like . . . eyeballs? or rollerskate wheels? Is she smushing a cat beneath her, or what? What’s going on there? :)
