Aw man, I remember "I Feel Sick!" And I was twelve when I read it, too, so I thought that stuff was so crazy and revolutionary. Man, it's Jhonen Vasquez's fault I'm a comic artist now instead of an astrophysicist.

Yeah, unfortunately, that's good advice on Cerebus. The second volume is pretty good and has most of the interesting political stuff and humor, but it would probably hook you for a few more volumes, which would get you into some of the more interesting character stuff, but then the whole series falls off a major cliff half-way through, wrecking it completely. Fans like me still stuck it out to the end and got some enjoyment out of it, but at a huge price in time and emotional investment squandered. So if you can avoid the whole thing, then steer clear. Dave Sim is still an important figure in the history of the last few decades of comics, but better to admire his influence from a distance than to deal with his insane psycho behavior up close.
